Nothing Is Holding You Back - Except You
Although you can make these changes by yourself, it's much easier and quicker when you get help from someone else. Yes, you know what you want to change. Yes, you believe it's important. But, your perceptions and your beliefs become habits.
habit
noun
1. behavior or process done repeatedly – without thinking – in order to ease one's life
• Informal - an addictive practice, esp. one of taking drugs: a cocaine habit.
• Psychology - an automatic reaction to a specific situation
Habits are developed over time to make your life easier. After all, if you had to think about everything you do with the same intensity as you did when you learned it, you'd be exhausted by 8:00 AM! So, our brain develops habits allowing us to relax a little and accomplish more without the stress.
The downside of Habit: Side Effects
"The price of liberty is eternal vigilance" – Thomas Jefferson
Although habits start out benefiting us, if not monitored regularly, they can take over our lives. In the end, the price of the habit can be worse then the benefit it initially provided.
That's when we have to change.
Changing a habit by yourself is pretty darn difficult!
Changing a habit requires thinking – a lot! Thinking (especially about something we haven't thought about in a long time) takes a lot of vigilance. We get tired. Our life becomes complicated (because the habit is no longer making it easier). We get frustrated. We perceive it's not working. We give up.
The cycle of frustration begins again.
By setting yourself up with other encouraging people who are working on the same ideas, you get the support you need to actually make the changes you want.
